Bold and Bright

This little board book goes up to the number '5', with each 2-page spread dedicated to a single digit. One side of each page has the number itself (including dots below the number corresponding to that digit), with the opposite page displaying the appropriate number of objects. As far as that goes, it's not a bad book at all. The colors are bright and bold, with fun 'metallic' bits on each picture. You can not only count the objects, but also talk about colors.
I personally liked the other books (about shapes and colors) more than this one, but if you want a very short book on numbers, you could do worse. I reduced my rating from 5 to 4 due to the fact that I felt that the book was a bit too abstract for a very young child (the age that needs to learn to count to 5). For example, the object for the number one is the bird (shown on the cover). This bird is bright, colorful, and not immediately obvious (to a baby) as a bird. On the number two page, the objects are cars, but they are not identical (different colors and sizes). When trying to teach an abstract concept like numbers to a child, I think it would be easier if these objects were easier to understand for a baby. However, these minor quibbles are not enough to detract from the overall book, which I believe would still be beneficial as a teaching tool.
