Playing The Part (The Rosewoods Book 3), by Katrina Abbott

Kaylee Bennett has never felt like she really fit in at The Rosewood Academy for Academic Excellence, but this year she feels even more like an outsider. Life has done a one-eighty for Kaylee and as she returns to the posh school for girls, she can’t bring herself to tell her secret to her friends and definitely not her long term crush, Phillip Carson. Not that Kaylee could ever imagine he would be attracted to a quiet bookworm like her anyway. But then there’s Declan Ryan, the gorgeous exchange student who seems to be interested, until Kaylee finds out his secret and why he might actually be into her, and it has nothing to do with her charm or love of English literature.

To complicate matters, Kaylee gets stuck running the school’s production of Romeo and Juliet, directing both Declan and Phillip with the help of Rosewood’s sexy first year teacher, Mr. Stratton—as if the Westwood boys weren’t enough of a distraction!
Determined to stay away from Declan and make things work with Phillip, Kaylee isolates herself from her friends and hides out in the house of cards she’s built to protect herself, but how long will it stay standing?

Playing The Part is the third book of The Rosewoods, an exciting new Young Adult series for readers who love fun, flirty love stories.

Her whole life went from being great to being stressful
By Tiffany Do
*Thanks to the author for providing me with an e-copy of the story in exchange for an honest review.*

This story in the Rosewoods series is about Kaylee Bennett and her life at Rosewood Academy. Coming back to Rosewood, Kaylee knew things would be different; she knew she was different. Her whole life went from being great to being stressful. Accepted back to Rosewood on a scholarship, she became afraid that if her friends knew, they would start to treat her differently and look at her in a different light. Then there are her boy troubles with Phillip, the boy who she threw up on the year before at the dance and Declan, the new handsome Irish boy who saved her from embarassment by asking her to dance. She has no idea what to do because she has an unrequited crush on Phillip, but she is also intrigued by Declan. However, when she finds out something that changes her mind about him, she's not so sure about anything anymore. Along with these troubles, she also has to run the school play due to her community service assignment. With no time to spare for herself, she feels like she's going to be driven insane.

Again, another fantastic book written by Katrina Abbott. This is my third review for one of her books and I can honestly say it didn't disappoint. I loved that we were being able to see more into why Kaylee acted like she did in the other books. Also, Kaylee was one of my favorite characters in the other books with Brooklyn as the main character so I was excited to be reading about her. However, one of the most annoying attributes about her character was her indecisiveness about the guys who were interested in her. Also, I didn't really like her obliviousness to how Phillip was treating her and using her for his own needs and wants. Declan was obviously so attracted to her and her to him, but when she heard the things she did, she became cold towards him and I felt like she could've just confronted him about those things if anything. Even though she is not a confrontational character, she should've just asked Declan instead of avoid him every time she got the chance to. I still love Kaylee though, she is a very practical character. I really loved Declan as well; in terms of the boys in the books, I felt as though he was really sweet and caring and even though Kaylee kept giving him the cold shoulder, he was determined to try to win her over. Finding out what I did about Kaylee and the masquerade ball was hilarious. I really did not see that coming at all. Even though it was surprising, it was great to see how it all turned out. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I can't see what is next in the series.

Game Changer!
By Kindle Customer
Book 3 -- Well this was a game changer! This book is not told from Brooklyn's point of view. Its from Kaylee Bennett and seems to run parallel in time to book 2. For Kaylee, she is not new to Rosewood but coming back to Rosewood for her this year is much different than past years. Her whole life went from being great to NOT - and its much more than financial hardship in her life. She has been allowed to return to Rosewood but on a scholarship. Since all of her friends are all rich she didn't want them to know this detail in fear that they would start to treat her differently.

Then there are her boy troubles with Phillip, the boy who she threw up on the year before at the dance and Declan, the new handsome Irish boy who saved her from embarrassment by asking her to dance. She has always had a crush on Phillip, but Declan -- he is nice, cute, and a little mysterious. However, when she finds out something that changes her mind about him, she's not so sure about anything anymore. Along with these troubles, she also has to run the school play due to her community service assignment. With no time to spare for herself, she feels like she's going to be driven insane.

This book could of gone two ways with a complete change of point of view from a secondary character and being written in the same timeline as the previous book -- as I don't think its easy to write in a parallel time and hook the reader in addition to bringing a secondary character into the starring role. Katrina pulled it off beautifully! Kaylee was a sideline character in the previous two books but she had mystery to her. I enjoyed being able to see more into why Kaylee acted like she did in the other books.

The Rosewoods--packed with sugar, and spice and everything nice---that's what these books are made of!
By This Girl Reads A Lot
I just adore these fun, and flirty books. They're packed with sugar, and spice and everything nice---that's what these books are made of.

In this in-between novel, we get Kaylee's story--daughter of movie producers and supreme secret holder. Kaylee has never felt like she fit in but when she returns from summer break, life makes sure she fits in even less.

She's holding secrets, and dodging questions from her closest friends. Then in steps Phillip Carson, long time crush and Declan Ryan, gorgeous, Irish-accented dream. Of course, when there's two guys it's never going to be easy.

Love, life, secrets, and all around cuteness make this novel a treat to read. It's not action-packed or overly dramatic but it's just as good as the one's that are. What I like most about these books is that it doesn't need to over do anything to be good. It just is. It makes me feel like a teenager again, although my life story is not nearly as interesting. It just makes you feel good, yes--that's it, it's a feel good book. At times I smiled and giggled like the school girl.

I enjoyed Kaylee's back story and her love triangle-ish dilemma. It was a nice distraction while waiting for book five to release, which luckily for me I won't be waiting for--since I already have it.

If you're new to this series, I should mention that although there are five books in this series they're good enough, and strong enough to stand on their own--without the obligation of reading the others first, aside from books one and two which follow the same characters.

Abbott has a way with the cute and awkward and I can't wait to read book five, which Emmie's story.
