The book includes the full catalog of ships in service ranging from the mighty battleship Tirpitz (sister ship Bismarck was sunk by the time it was published) to the battle cruisers, pocket battleships, destroyers, tenders, U-boats, mine vessels, transports and tenders that serviced the fleet. Also included is information about captured warships under German control, and a profile of the never-completed aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin. ONI 204 is astonishing in its range and detail. Browsing through its pages you’ll find silhouettes, photographs and photos of models, airbrushed renderings and drawings, and detailed plans and profiles of twenty-five classes of warship. Throughout the text, the similarities and differences between the various ships are described, and many specific details highlighted, making this a must-have book for the historian and modeler. This high quality reprint of this now-declassified book is slightly reformatted but presents the original text in its entirety.

Bind Me Before You Go

Bind Me Before You Go is Harper Kincaid's addition to the Entangled Serve Series. It is a standalone, but some of the characters do overlap. I have read some of the books in that series by other authors, but this is my first read by Harper Kincaid.

David Cavill works as a security expert and is a Shibari rope master at a sex club called Serve. He's asked to take one for the team and "babysit" a newbie's friend while she goes through orientation. He is totally thrown off-guard when he meets the friend, Cassidy. She's sexy as hell and their chemistry leaps off the pages! He asks her to fill out an application too-just in case- but really just wants to know if she would entertain his specialty. No use in getting worked up over nothing.

Cassidy is new to New York. Her roommate talks her into going to the sex club with her since she's been approved and is itching to go, but doesn't want to go alone. Cassidy tells herself one of the reasons she came to New York is to open up more and take chances with people-a vast difference from her upbringing. Once at Serve, she feels a bit out of sorts, but then Wham!, she meets David. Sex on a stick and his voice makes her melt. She decides to fill out the application just to continue talking with him. She can feel the sparks and wants to know more, so why not?

This was a pretty quick read that moved along at a fast pace. At times maybe a bit too fast. I was surprised that Cassidy would jump so quick when David didn't really back up what he was selling her. He talks of mutuality and trust a lot in this book, and asks Cassidy to trust him, but doesn't give her any back. He's got some family issues and believes he isn't good for anybody. His reasoning may be valid, but I didn't like him being so hypocritical. They decide on a two week affair under the guise of Cassidy learning what she likes and wants. It's also labeled as a BDSM book but there is only rope play involved. The scenes at Serve are very low key and not what you would expect. I liked the explanation of David's Shibari and why he likes it so much. I found it interesting that David has a playroom at home but there is really no time spent there teaching Cassidy anything other than the Shibari. I was hoping for more diverse playing since that was the premise of the affair to begin with. I did like how David took care of her and did seem totally into and in tune with her during their scenes.

So would I recommend it? Yes. I enjoyed it even though it was predictable. I also think this is a great intro to kink book if you haven't read that type of book before. I am looking forward to reading other books by Harper Kincaid, especially at Serve, as she has a real knack for writing. The rope scenes she's written are very visual and I had no problem "seeing" what was taking place. Kudos!

Review:

Though it does not list it on the Goodreads site, this is part of the Serve multi-author series. This is a total stand alone and do not need to read any of the others, though I have read quite a few of them and have enjoyed them all. This is a new to me Author and I really liked her writing style and the story and characters in this book. I am not sure how many pages there were in the story, but it flew by, I finished it my lunch hour. The author did a great job of combining sexy and emotion in this story. I particularly liked that David is into shibari and thought that tied (no pun intended) the characters together in the beginning and ending of the story. Both characters know this is affair is on a time limit, but you know those emotions don't know anything about time limits. David is hiding a secret about his family that he is afraid to tell Cassidy about because of his past relationships and Cassidy has to show David that she is not like the others. When David gives up, I like that Cassidy goes and gives him a "Come to Jesus" talk and fights for him and shows that she is different from the rest. Though, he is stubborn and it takes some manipulation to get David with the program, but the ending is very satisfying.

Great for when you want some quick spice in your day.

This book isn't for everyone. I don't think many readers would take this book with them when they go out. This is the kind of book you'd want to enjoy when you just want to unwind on the weekend and have some alone time. It isn't hard to figure out what this book is about from the title. Of course it comes with a sexy cover so you know what you're getting into from the start.

Cassidy moves to New York. She wants to figure out what she wants in her life. She wants to break free of getting into relationships with men where she turns herself into what she thinks they want her to be. Now she's in the driver's seat and she decides to go to a sex club with her roommate one evening. She is entering into a new world and while there she meets a guy.

I do like that Cassidy is the one that's in charge of what happens. She meets David and starts to discover what she wants in her life. David has his own issues about relationships so they are both learning about themselves as they fall in love and deal with how this is going to change their lives. I like that Cassidy is the one that is in control of what is happening since that's a refreshing change to having the guy be in charge. I also like that this book is writing about this like it is just something that some people do. There's no shame in it. Sure it isn't for everyone but just because you aren't into this kind of thing doesn't mean you can't enjoy the story as it unfolds.

No Experience IS required (for new users)

In the normal course of writing about SolidWorks topics, I was provided a copy of this book to review. This short version of my review is being added to Amazon.com to provide a bit of balance to the rating for this book. This book takes a detailed approach to teaching SolidWorks to new users. Though the book is structured as a tutorial, it is also a reliable reference guide to fundamental aspects of SolidWorks.

For experienced 3D CAD users, much of SolidWorks user interface and functionality is intuitive, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be covered in a book designed for new users. This book takes a detailed approach to learning SolidWorks. It is so detailed that even some experienced users may learn something by browsing its pages. In doing so, this book gives the reader context for each topic. For example, the FeatureManager (one of the primary user interface areas) is frequently discussed in the context of its use within each particular area. This helps the reader gain real understanding of its value as they perform certain tasks.

As book addresses each topic, it thoroughly covers every detail of the choices presented to the reader. This gives the reader a clear understanding as to why they choose one option over the other within the tutorial tasks. This adds significant value to this book as an actual reference guide. The reader learns more than just how to go through a simple step-by-step process for one exercise. They learn how to use SolidWorks for any design project.

However, sometimes the detail may be too much in the context of a tutorial. For example, chapter 1 teaches the reader about the SolidWorks user interface, but it also provides information on how to customize that interface. Perhaps a chapter on editing the user interface might be better at some later point in the book (or even in another book)?

Even still, this book is a great source to learn SolidWorks for new users. Academia might find this book very useful in their 3D CAD courses. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have this book available in any company that often hires people that may not be completely familiar with SolidWorks.

This book is NOT for advanced or expert SolidWorks users. CAD managers should not buy this book thinking they will learn something new. It is an education tool for new users, and a reference guide for others.

A very weak book in general.

I've been using SolidWorks since 2005, but my company has not kept up on subscription and I'm new to the 2010 version. First; SolidWorks 2010 is a major improvement over the older version. Huge improvements across the board in the user interface, toolbars, drawings, manufacturing capabilities, assemblies, features, material library, help and it just goes on.

I was looking for a SolidWorks 2010 book and saw this one written by Gabi Jack - blogger who I respect very much. I obtained a lot of tips from her blog on Solid modeling over the years. The book starts off very slowly; and frankly never really gets there. As an example:
On page 89 - you create your first sketch.
On page 146 - you finally finish your first simple part (base for the lamp).

In 500 pages of text - you create a single lamp assembly; which looks very similar to the one that SolidWorks Corporation used in their older tutorials.

The book does not provide a CD/DVD of examples, templates or before-and-after files of the models in the book. This would be helpful to any user.

To obtain access to needed and additional files or models, you need to download them - which can be an issue if your company has internet download blocks. Example:
On page 151 - download the install FDC Size B drawing template. This is not good!

The book is way too slow for the beginner; and is fairly useless to a present SolidWorks user - especially if you visit Gabi's blog along with others and attend any local SolidWorks user group meeting. A very weak book in general.

PS - Per the 3 posted comments to my review which occurred within 10 minutes of each other - Gabi you rock, but this is the way I feel about the book. Too slow is just too slow for anyone. For the general public, which is not part of the blogging community, what does this say about comments in general?

Great Starter Book

No Experience Required sums it up. If you are new to SolidWorks this book will logically walk you through the steps to build a desk lamp. While it may not be what you really want to build with SolidWorks it covers all the commands necessary to build basic mechanical items. This is not an advanced book but will move you from ground zero to a competent modeler in an organized fashion. The author takes time to explain why certain proceedures are used so you also get a feel for best practices along the way.

The style is cookbook fashion but it pauses along the way to explain why you are doing the steps. A good grasp on what is taught in this book will eliminate the need for the week of basic training provided by SolidWorks vendors at a cost of thousands of dollars. If you are planning on doing free form design this is not the book for you but it does cover the basics of modeling that will not likely be covered in a freeform design or surfacing guidebook.

A very good book. It's a work of fiction that gives you an insight on the realities that people actually face while beautifully depicting the relationship between a Mother and her Daughter.

A must read !

I seldom read a book twice, but in the case of P.A. Chawla’s “Mumbai Mornings” I made an exception. The first time I raced through it, eager to see how the next story would unfold. But I read it a second time to explore all the nuances, enjoying it slowly as one would sipping a steaming hot cup of tea, much like the author did with her mother. The stories themselves roll out with ease and some even have subtle twists. They are diverse and colorful, and provide an intimate glimpse into the mother-daughter relationship, extended families and their dynamics, Asian Indian culture and general human trials and triumphs. I particularly appreciated the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, and would often go back and re-read each after I’d read that chapter, to get a deeper appreciation. Chawla uses words as a canvas to so beautifully describe settings and emotions so that the reader can easily feel themselves transported into the stories. This is definitely a gem of a book, and I would highly recommend it.

Mumbai Mornings is the second book of Chawla's that I have read, and I have to say I truly enjoyed it just as much as her first! It's a set of individual stories that the character, Saya, hears from her mother for the first time. Chawla has this keen ability to make you feel like you are standing right there next to her characters while some superbly dramatic (and often rather thought provoking) events unfold. Her descriptions are enough to bring you to the giant that is India (a character in itself) and make you feel right at home..."There was only the sound of our footfalls on the matted grass and the rarefied air blowing hither and thither, whispering through bamboo forests, gathering the scent of wild roses and circulating hymns of joy along the surrounding lakes." Beautiful. I highly recommend this quick and nourishing read.

Cardwell C. Nuckols, Ph.D., is an expert on brain development and recovery who has been described as "one of the most influential clinical trainers in America." His many publications include the national best-seller, Cocaine: Dependency to Recovery. His recent DVD, "The Science Based Treatment of Addictive Disorders," provides a scientific basis for many of the ideas first addressed in Healing the Child Within.

Charles L. Whitfield, M.D., is a physician, psychotherapist, and internationally recognized expert on mental illness, behavioral problems, and recovery. He has been on the faculty of the Rutgers University Summer Institute of Alcohol and Drug Studies from 1978 to 2003, and in private practice of medicine and psychotherapy since 1976. He has been voted by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America every year since 1994. He lives in Atlanta, GA.

The concept of the Child Within has been a part of our world culture for at least two thousand years. Carl Jung called it the 'Divine Child' and Emmet Fox called it the 'Wonder Child.' Psychotherapists Alice Miller and Donald Winnicott refer to it as the 'true self.' Many in the field of alcoholism and other chemical dependence call it the 'inner child.'

The Child Within refers to that part of each of us which is ultimately alive, energetic, creative and fulfilled; it is our Real Self―who we truly are.
With our parents' unknowing help and society's assistance, most of us deny our Inner Child. When this Child Within is not nurtured or allowed freedom of expression, a false or co-dependent self emerges. We begin to live our lives from a victim stance, and experience difficulties in resolving emotional traumas. The gradual accumulation of unfinished mental and emotional business can lead to chronic anxiety, fear, confusion, emptiness and unhappiness.

Denial of the Child Within and the subsequent emergence of a false self or negative ego are particularly common among children and adults who grew up in troubled families, such as those where chronic physical or mental illness, rigidity, coldness or lack of nurturing were common.

Yet, there is a way out. There is a way to discover and to heal our Child Within and to break free of the bondage and suffering from relying on our false self. That is what this book is about.

Saved my life

This made a huge difference in my life as I faced the past that I had buried and found out that it wasn't really that scary at all. It was simple really--I just wanted attention and never quite got what I needed growing up. Now that I am an adult I can give myself the attention I need because that inner child isn't really a separate entity but is a vital part of who we are. The childish wonder and acceptance we are taught to repress is what we can use to motivate ourselves through life.
