This is a good general introduction to the business of property management. This textbook includes chapters on

Full of good statistics

Took this course a few years ago, and we used this book. It is a good starter book. There are others out there that could be used also, but this one is written at the average persons reading level. It also is good becuase it covers all properties not just apartments or retail etc..

The book appears to cover the basic points to be made about property management but could contain more critical detail.

It was not purchased for a class but to learn if it had specifics about management of condomimiums and outsourced management companies. It did not mention details about the relationship between the owners, their boards and the management companies such as mandatory audits, fiduciary considerations, education of board members, etc. Typically, the owners/boards abdicate total management to outsourced companies and this should be mentioned and ways of board control and awareness should be mentioned. This alterting could be done in just a few paragraphs.

Other well known books have been consulted. They also fail in this regard.

To Be Or Not To Be

From the time I opened the first page of the book to the time that I closed the last page, the underlying emotion running through me was regrets, regrets and more regrets. Regret that I did not discover this book by Nicholas Marsh while being a student.
The author has unveiled the complexities and ambiguities surrounding the study of literature. He has created a mental classroom where a constant and active interaction between the author and the reader exist throughout the book. The authority and the vast experience that exudes from the writer is undeniable, but he did not enforced his personal point of view on the reader or claimed that his studying methods are supreme. On the contrary, he encourages the reader to develope an unique point of view and interpretation style.
I strongly recommend this book to those (layman or students) who are entering the mysterious world of literary arts because after reading this book, I have discover greater joy and greater clarity and knowledge in reading literature, be they serious or easy.

Good Start to Literature

(This review is for the 1987 edition.)

This guide provides basic study techniques for students of English in the UK. The first part covers analysis; how to find themes in a work, how characters support a theme, the general structure of a story, the use of style and imagery, and how to study irony. The second part describes how to compose and write essays during an English examination.

The language in the book is kept simple and there is hardly any jargon. In each chapter, a method for studying each topic is first described and then a worked example is demonstrated. No particular interpretation is pushed and the student is encouraged to read works and come to their own conclusions. All the techniques are then brought together in the chapters on essay writing.

Although aimed at students, this guide would help anyone who is interested in gaining a better understanding of literature.

The guitar reading workbook is a great tool for any guitar player interested in learning to read and notate music. The book starts from the very beginning with the basics and progresses through to advanced topics. I like the fact that it includes various excersises in both music notation and reading. I think the book is great and very well organized, I plan on using it for all of my students and guitar classes.

This book will teach the guitarist both. It is paced well,and can benefit any guitarist. We will be using this book at our school (Mel Booker Music) and we are excited about it. There has been a need for this for a long time. Get this book.

Guitar Reading (and beyond) Workbook

Since April 22, 2009, I have been reading and working on Barrett Tagliarino's Guitar Reading Workbook. In that time, I have found that Barrett's Guitar Reading Workbook is a vital resource for this two year beginner guitarist. With this book, I have learned that the musical staff can be learned with all of its twists and turns. From basic notations like the quarter-note vocabulary, to repeat signs and scalar reading, the Guitar Reading Workbook has been helpful to me in learning not only the notes on the staff, but also to be able to apply them to the fretboard. Another item that this book has been helpful to me is the ability to practice staying in time. Like all the other chapters in this book, Barrett goes in to detail on how to count the notes and rests and to use the metronome to reinforce this counting process. But what I like about this book and all of his other books, is that he explains in detail but with a humorous approach, then makes you write the lesson out and then practice the lesson. This explain-write-practice approach has been helpful to reinforce all that Barrett Tagliarino's Guitar Reading Workbook has to teach.

About the Author


Cheryl Schmidt is a professor of Network Engineering Technology at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Prior to joining the faculty ranks, she oversaw the LAN and PC support for the college and other organizations. She started her career as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy. She teaches computer repair and various networking topics, including CCNA, CCNP, VoIP, QoS, and wireless technologies. She has published other works with Pearson, including IP Telephony Using CallManager Express and Routing and Switching in the Enterprise Lab Guide.


Cheryl has won awards for teaching and technology, including Outstanding Faculty of the Year, Innovative Teacher of the Year, Cisco Networking Academy Instructor Excellence Award, and Cisco Networking Academy Stand Out Instructor. She has presented at U.S. and international conferences. Cheryl keeps busy maintaining her technical certifications and teaching, but also loves to travel, hike, do all types of puzzles, and read.

A More Than Complete Textbook for Aspiring PC Technicians

This 1300-page tome is an ideal text for high school, vocational, and community college A+ preparation courses. The author is a distinguished professor who has taught these classes, and you can tell by her choices when highlighting a key concept or presenting a lab that most if not all of this content has been tested in a classroom environment. Additionally, the inclusion of accurate information on recent and emerging technologies (Windows 10, wearables, 3-D printing) provides value beyond just exam preparation.

My only criticism of the book is that it is, perhaps, too voluminous. It seems as if each and every point is outlined, exemplified, reiterated, photographed, and then summarized with a table or a funny cartoon. The practicing technician looking to recertify with an up-to-date Exam Cram will NOT be happy with this approach! That said, the teenager, the retiree, the enthusiast, the career-changer, and above all the classroom instructor should definitely consider this beyond complete guide to the A+ as an introduction to information technology.

Good content

I needed this text for a teaching class and found the information to be extreemly helpful. Borich does a nice job on addressing many of the questions that concerned me.

Practical Yet Researched Based.

Unlike many textbooks, Borich's Effective Teaching Methods provides an equal balance of practical application and scholarly research-based practices. It's written keeping in mind that the user is going to be in the classroom and confronted with the challenges that are faced by today's educators. I especially like how it attempts to steer new teachers away from many of the common 1st year mistakes.

Likes:

*The DVD contains all the videos that the textbook references.

*The book gives the Prentice Hall website where you can access short quizzes at the end of each chapter. This is handy because you can test how well you have comprehended the information (They are also at the end of each chapter, but the website calculates the scores for you). You can also access the PowerPoint's for each chapter. They are meant for professor use, but it's a nice introduction into each chapter or a good review afterwards.

*At the end of each chapter there is an overall review, key terms, and case studies, if you so desire to solidify your instructional knowledge.

Dislike:
I really only have one beef with this book and it's not really the book itself. The teaching examples on the DVD are OLD. I spied early and mid 90s dates on the walls. Granted, the situations are still very much relevant today, but of course, the technology looks very outdated.

Overall, I give this textbook/DVD 4.5 stars with a half star taken off for the outdated classroom observation. But, since Amazon doesn't allow half stars, I give it five.

A Classic in its Own Right

After reading this book, not only do I have a greater respect for our Founding Fathers, but I also understand why Ms. Bowen used the word "Miracle" in her title. It's remarkable to think that our Constitution, which has proven durable over the past two centuries in spite of its flaws, arose out of those intense debates in Philadelphia's sweltering summer.
This book is particularly valuable for its perspective. Learning about the delegates' personalities and backgrounds was fascinating, and seeing the Convention in the context of the social and political conditions of early America was especially insightful. I also enjoyed seeing the early colonies through the eyes of foreign visitors.
If you're interested in the history of the U.S. Constitution, this book is a must (my condolences to the disgruntled high school students of previous reviews).

A Classic and Important Book

This is the story of the formation of our constitutional govenrment.
Catherine Drinker Bowen's book is a classic that tells how America's founding fathers debated, compromised and struggled to create a permanent system of rebublican government in a world ruled by monarchs and absolutists.
The debates are here, as well as the personalities. The story of how various elements of our governing structure were arrived at is fascinating as well as illuminating to any serious student of the American system. Important debates regarding the nature of the presidency, small state versus large state interests (how we got our Senate), the desirability of direct democracy versus state interests (part of how we got the Electoral College), the finessing of the slave issue -- its all here.
I read this book and was filled with a profound sense of pride and amazement at the story of how the "gentlemen of Philadelphia" were able to navigate such complex issues and arrive at the masterpiece that is our Constitution.
In Bowen's hands, this moving and patriotic story is well told and thoroughly explored. I imagine many of you reading this review have this book on a political science syllabus, but it should be read by any with an interest in our Constitution or our government's history.

Miracle at Philadelphia....most illuminating.

I purchased this book over ten years ago and for various reasons, I did not get to read it until last summer. A pleasant surprise! The book places the Constitutional Convention within the context of the times, political and social climate and the beliefs and personalities of those responsible for its creation. Reading this, I developed a flavor for the circumstances which brought about the Constitution. One develops a true appreciation for the ultimate collective wisdom of the founding fathers. The book has been in print for many, many years. If you read it, you'll find out why.
