About the Author
Miki Garcia is a journalist by training and a food aficionado by vocation. She obtained a Master's Degree in Journalism in England and is the author of two books: All About Ireland and How To Get Involved with International Organizations. She is an expert on Kapampangan culture and history and, though she has lived and traveled in nearly 100 countries, her greatest love is for the melting-pot food of the Philippines, where she lived for a year. She resides in San Francisco, California.

Luca Invernizzi Tettoni is a world-renowned photographer who has lived and worked in Asia since 1973. He specializes in books on Asian culture. Among his many publications are Tropical Asian Style, Balinese Gardens, Thai Style, The Tropical Spa and Contemporary Thai.

Theo Domini O. Zaragoza has a natural gift for cooking and an aptitude for creativity. He studied Food Styling at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. The marriage of his two passions, culinary and design, are his consummate bliss. In 2004, he set up a food styling and food photography firm in the Philippines, the Resultado Gourmet Designs. Amazed at the accuracy

As a Filipino, I'm amazed and delighted by the cultural accuracy of this book. I chuckle to myself every time I crack this book open. For instance, for the "vegetables" chapter, the author openly admits that "Filipinos are not known for their consumption of vegetable-only dishes". I've had this problem every time I'm invited to a "cultural potluck" and someone in the group is vegetarian -- it just doesn't work! Even Pinakbet, the quintessential vegetable dish of the Philippines, is flavored with bagoong (shrimp paste). I usually end up just making a dessert.

Here's another one: "Pulburon cookies... have become popular pasalubong (gifts or souvenir items) purchased by people who visit the Philippines for friends back home". I thought this was just a thing within my family!

As for the recipes, they are extremely accurate as well. The Kare-Kare (oxtail stew) calls for regular old sweet peanut butter, not that "all natural" stuff. It also doesn't make you grind the peanuts yourself. It presents each recipe just as a REAL Filipino would cook it, not some "gourmet" permutation.

I highly recommend this book not only as a cookbook, but also as a cultural guide to Filipino cuisine.

Great cookbook!

I bought this book because it features some Kapamangan recipes. I know the Kapampangans are well-known in the Philippines for their fine cuisine.
I have tried some desert recipes and they were so yummy (especially Leche Flan and yemas my personal favorites) and my friends loved them too. I will update this review once I have tried other recipes in this book. I can't wait to try adobo...The book is glossy shiny good quality print, with mouthwatering photographs!

I've looked at Filipino cookbooks before and this one has a great lay-out that makes learning how to make Filipino food easy and fun. Great explanation of things to know before starting to cook. Pictures are great.

About the Author
Steven J. Zaloga was born in 1952, received his BA in history from Union College, and his MA from Columbia University. He has published numerous books and articles dealing with modern military technology, especially armored vehicle development. His main area of interest is military affairs in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in the Second World War, and he has also written extensively on American armored forces.

Excellent and informative book on an important Soviet AFV

Steven Zaloga is one of my favorite authors on tanks and AFVs. This volume does not disappoint. The T54/55 tank is one of the most numerous and successful Soviet tanks ever developed. Over 40,000 of these tanks are used all over the world. Zaloga does a great job of describing the development of the T54 and T55 tanks and the variant models. He also includes various sections which explain the upgrade versions of the T55, the Chinese copies of the T54 (called the T-59 and T-69), and the combat performance of the T54/55. What I always appreciate about Zaloga is that he inserts helpful information such as the armor penetration of the 100mm D-10T guns (e.g. compare the HVAP round which penetrates 200mm with the latest UBM6 APSDS round which can penetrate up to 290 mm at 2km against a vertical target)and the armor upgrades of the T55. As always in this series, the colored plates and illustrations are excellent. Zaloga packs in so much information in 47 pages! Highly recommended!!

Infamous T-55

Author Steve Zaloga is probably the best expert on Soviet equipment. This book is an update to the earlier Vanguard Soviet Modern tanks published back in 1984. Ironic that the older book has more photos (two) of the interior than this book (one). If you've studied modern armor or warfare, then you know of the T-55. It traces its lineage from the T-34 of WW2 fame, continuing the Russian concept of small, easily built tanks that are highly mobile and simple to use. The down side is that they are lighter, less protected and not comfortable for their crews.

This is an excellent primer on the T-55, perhaps the best of what is available right now. The photos tend to be small, but crisp B&W. There are six pages of color plates to show the paint schemes and two pages for a vehicle cut away. The one comment I have on these New Vanguard series - not enough coverage on the interior. I think each crew position should be shown, hence only four stars. Balancing that out is very good narrative and overview of the tanks's history and use in combat. Recommended for all armor buffs & modelers.

A decent general overview of the most important variants of T-54/T-55 series

The book is a very succinct overview of the most important variants of the T-54/55 tank series. The best part of the book are details regarding Russian and Chinese development of the different versions of the tank. However, the work is by no means an exhaustive treatment of the topic - the book is simply way too short to cover the full spectrum of variants, visual images and technical details regarding the most widely used tank of post-World War II era. If you want a short introduction and basic facts, this is a work for you, but for information and images of a particular version of the tank one might have to look for other sources.

Part II explains how the United States taxes the foreign activities of U.S. persons, and includes chapters on the foreign tax credit, deemed paid foreign tax credit, anti-deferral provisions, foreign currency translation and transactions, export tax benefits, planning for foreign operations, and state taxation of foreign operations. Part III describes how the United States taxes the U.S. activities of foreign persons, including the taxation of U.S.-source investment-type income and U.S. trade or business activities, as well as planning for foreign-owned U.S. operations. Finally, Part IV covers issues common to both outbound and inbound activities, including intercompany transfer pricing, tax treaties, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and international tax practice and procedure.

About the Author
Michael S. Schadewald, Ph.D., CPA, is on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he teaches graduate courses in multistate and international taxation. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Professor Schadewald is a co-author of several books on multistate and international taxation, and has published more than 30 articles in academic and professional journals, including the CPA Journal, Journal of Taxation, The Tax Adviser, TAXES: The Tax Magazine, International Tax Journal, International Tax Notes, and Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation. Professor Schadewald has also served on the editorial boards of Journal of the American Taxation Association, International Journal of Accounting, International Tax Journal, Issues in Accounting Education, and Journal of Accounting Education. Robert J. Misey, Jr., J.D., LL.M., M.B.A., is a shareholder in the law firm of Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren s.c. in Milwaukee. Mr. Misey focuses his practice in the areas of international taxation, transfer pricing, and tax controversies. He previously worked as an attorney for the IRS seving with the IRS Chief Counsel (International) in Washington D.C. and as a large-case attorney in the Western and Southeast Regions. He also worked as a member of Deliotte & Touche's International Tax Services Group and has tried 23 cases before the U.S. Tax Court. He is a member of the Tax Section of the District of Columbia, California and Wisconsin Bars. He has written numerous articles on tax issues and has spoken at continuing education programs on tax as well. He is the author of CCH's "ETI Repeal Under the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004: Analysis of the Law's Impact on U.S. Business."

I owned the 8th edition and purchased the 10th edition which included the PATH Tax Act of 2015.
